"Unceasing Prayer"
It’s summer and school is over for the year for most communities. Kiddos are home all day and believing moms around the globe are faced with a dilemma…when do I work in my prayer time?
It’s tough enough during the school year with all of the extra duties to be done but now there’s the summer schedule and we all know that we call it “summer vacation” but there’s nothing relaxed about it. I hear moms say their favorite part about school starting up again in the fall is the chance to get back into their regular devotion/prayer time.
Although I am a huge proponent of daily, quiet, uninterrupted times of prayer, rather than fall prey to the notion that summer will have to be prayer-less, consider the I Thessalonians 5:17 prompt to “Pray continually” in this light - as you move through your day, pray over what your hands are touching.
- As you pour the pancake batter onto the griddle ask God to bless the food to provide nutrients your children need to grow and to remain healthy. Ask Him to bless the nourishment of His Word into their hearts that they will grow in knowledge and understanding of Him and His Word.
- As you start the washer to do the laundry, ask Father to be the living water that your children need to satisfy every need they have. Pray that they will always be satisfied by Him and Him alone, longing for nothing or no one more than Him.
- As your hands grab hold of the vacuum cleaner, ask Him to bless your children with pure minds and pure hearts. Ask Him to give you wisdom and discernment about the TV shows your children watch, the books they read and the music they listen to, that nothing would be as dirt to their precious minds and hearts.
- As you steer the car or van, ask Him to be the driving passion for all your children will become. Ask Him to instill in them a desire to want Him above all life will offer them.
- As you sit at a baseball game, ask Him to use your child among others to display compassion, kindness, and love.
- As you walk with your child down the street on a warm summer night, ask Him to shape your child into a person who will shine like the stars for Him, always reflecting His glory like the moon reflects the sun.
I love this kind of praying. It gets in your head and before you know it, your thoughts are almost continually prayerful. How about that…unceasing prayer!
Blessings on your summer and on your summer prayers,
Kay
