"Disney Fast Pass"

Pray for the people I work with. For the last two days, and for a few more days to come, they are facing me without my face on. Well, not exactly no make-up at all but I left my cosmetic bag with my “real” cosmetics in Florida this past weekend so I’m getting by with all those old makeup bottles and tubes that get shoved in the back of bathroom drawers.

Please tell me you have those drawers. Few things mortify my housekeeping self more than what my mother ingrained in me years ago as the rationale for why we kept everything in a constant state of organization – “What if I die in a car accident and the women at church have to come in here and get my house in order?” To this day I am grateful that the Lord has spared us the dishonor of such a thing.

It was at the Haines home this past weekend while I was in Tarpon Springs for a speaking event that I left my make-up and now I’m just getting by, kind of biding my time ‘til it gets here. We talked about something similar at the Ladies’ Day on Saturday.

Here’s what happens, most typically to those of us who grew up going to church as soon as the doctor signed our hospital discharge papers following birth. At some point in life, we become pretty certain that if God split the skies and returned to judge our eternal destiny, we’d be toast so we decide to “come to the Lord.” We repent of our sins, confess Jesus as Lord and are baptized in obedience to Christ.

And then we grab the Disney Fast Pass. At Disneyworld, if you get to a ride and there’s a long line, you can get a Fast Pass which allows you to come back at a later specified time and zip right onto the ride, no lines. So you get your Fast Pass and try to find something interesting to do until “your time” comes. But what you’re really holding out for is the ride you have the Fast Pass for.

Now sometimes, dear ones, here’s what I see…once we accept Jesus as Lord, we act as though we’ve just gotta bide our time ‘til time for heavens gates to open when we can use the Fast Pass to avoid hell and head on into our mansion.

Life is lived just trying to get by and hoping with all we’ve got that we maintain some semblance of spirituality so we don’t lose our Fast Pass.

Oh dear ones, no, no, no. Our Lord died so we can live, not get by. He bore our sins so we can experience freedom, not constantly look over our shoulder for satan’s chains to reappear.

If you are His child, live like the royalty you are! Let His power fill you with His fullness (Ephesians 3). He has promised that out of His riches, He will provide ALL our needs. Our need for the abandonment of fear, shame, addictive behaviors, bitterness, guilt, anger, spiritual laziness. Our need for the fullness of His Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, self-control, gentleness, faithfulness.

Listen, please listen, He has dreams for you and they start now, at this time in your life. He offers His power and riches for you now, with what’s happening in your life now. Take Him at His Word, dear one. He longs to be gracious to you, truly He does. I’m praying you invite Him to do just that.

Lovingly,
Kay
